Fujifilm has moved its camera line to 24MP sensors, so I've updated our tests to see how it performs at higher resolution, specifically with the X-E3. If you have a 16MP body, rest assured, the 50-140mm delivers excellent performance. It turns out performance is also excellent at 24MP. At 50mm f/ the lens puts up 3,258 lines per picture height on the Imatest center-weighted evaluation. That's much better than the the minimum 1,800 lines we look for in a photo. Edge performance lags only slightly behind the center at f/ Resolution holds steady as you stop down—3,288 lines at f/4, 3,237 lines at f/ 3,322 lines at f/8, and 3,359 lines at f/11. We see a drop at f/16 2,906 lines and f/22 2,497 lines. Scores are almost identical at the 70mm position. At 90mm there is a modest hit in image quality at the edges of the frame. The lens still manages a strong 2,670-line average at f/ but edges fall to 2,033 lines. That's still pretty sharp, just not on par with the center resolution. The overall resolution improves as the lens is stopped down—3,003 lines at f/4 and 3,230 lines at f/ the first setting where edges are almost as crisp as the center 3,012 lines. So, depending on your viewpoint, the Fujifilm XF 50-140mm R LM OIS WR marks quite a departure from the more dimunitive lenses in the XF lineup, or it's a lighter alternative to the Canon/Nikon offerings. Chromatic Aberrations Chromatic aberrations, typically seen as purple or blue fringes along contrasty edges, are not a problem with the Fujifilm XF 50-140mm R LM OIS WR lens, so much so that we couldn't find any examples in our test shots.
